Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 24, 2026

Draft -- awaiting legal review. This privacy policy has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It describes our current, good-faith practices, but treat it as provisional until that review is complete.

The short version

Browsing this site collects nothing beyond standard hosting logs. The one place we do collect information is the Jumbotron shoutout form: a kid's first name, city/state, and a parent or guardian's email address -- nothing else, and nothing is used on air until that parent or guardian confirms by email. All-Stars submissions aren't open yet; see below.

What this site is

This site (boxscorebrains.com) publishes the Box Score Brains podcast: episode information, a trailer, links to subscribe, and the Jumbotron listener-shoutout submission. It also serves the show's RSS feed at feeds.boxscorebrains.com.

Jumbotron shoutout submissions

The Jumbotron page lets a parent or guardian submit their kid for a quick on-air shoutout. We collect exactly four things: the kid'sfirst name (no last name, ever), the kid's city and state, and a parent or guardian's email address. We don't ask for a last name, address, birthdate, phone number, or anything else.

Why we collect it: the first name and city/state are what gets read on the show. The parent or guardian email exists for one purpose -- confirming that a parent or guardian, not the child, submitted the form and consents to it airing.

How consent works: a submission is stored as pending and is never used on air until the parent or guardian clicks the one-time confirmation link we email to that address. This is designed to meet the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)'s requirement for verifiable parental consent before a child's information is collected or used. If that link is never clicked, the submission just sits as pending and is never read on the show.

We use the parent or guardian email only to send that one confirmation message. We don't add it to a mailing list, use it for marketing, or share it with anyone outside Box Score Brains.

The form is also protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a bot-check that runs before a submission is accepted. Turnstile is Cloudflare's own service and operates under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

All-Stars submissions

All-Stars is a related segment celebrating kids' real accomplishments -- see theAll-Stars page. We are not yet accepting All-Stars submissions; the submission form there is intentionally not live while we finish the same parental-consent review described above. No data is collected from that page today.

Hosting and technical logs

This site and its podcast feed are hosted on Cloudflare. Like virtually any website, Cloudflare processes standard technical information as part of delivering pages and the feed -- things like IP address, browser type, and request timing -- for basic operation, performance, and security (for example, blocking abusive traffic). We don't use this data for advertising, and we don't combine it with any other information about you, because we don't collect any other information about you.

Podcast apps

If you subscribe to Box Score Brains through a podcast app (Overcast, Pocket Casts, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or any other app), that app's own privacy policy governs whatever data it collects about your listening. We don't receive listener-identifying information back from podcast apps.

Children's privacy

Box Score Brains is made for kids, and we take that seriously. Aside from the Jumbotron shoutout submission described above -- which requires a parent or guardian's verifiable consent by email before any information about a child is used -- this site does not collect information from anyone, including children. This approach is designed to be consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). All-Stars submissions remain closed until the same consent design has been reviewed by a lawyer (see the draft notice above).

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page as the site changes, especially once All-Stars submissions open. We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever we do.
